Who’s behind the brand? With a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Noelle Sharp works mainly in the mediums of photography, drawing, and weaving, the latter of which brought her to start her own accessories line APORTA. (You can see some of her fine arts work here.)
What do they do? Every piece in the APORTA collection is either hand-knit or hand-woven on wooden floor looms in their Chicago workshop.
Where is she based? Her workshop is in Chicago, but it’s worth noting her extensive travels through Iceland as they have obviously been a great influence in her work.
Added social value of the brand? APORTA is looking to expand with a workshop where Noelle will teach knitting and weaving classes, not just to share her skill set but also to be able to hire more local people as APORTA craftsman, and in this way revitalize a locally produced textile industry.
Editors’ favorites from the line? This is another line where the stock on offer can change pretty rapidly, but at the time of this writing we’re in love with the Bauhaus Bandana Scarf with its great use of color. We also really like the Scouts Honor beanie, very traditional in design, super soft, with an unexpected pop of pink on the edge.
What materials does she use? Wool, cashmere, reclaimed fur, bamboo, cotton, rayon, angora
Where can I get the goods? At their online shop.
