At a glance: Nido de Sueños is a bold geometric jewelry line made mostly from ceramics with the occasional delicate gold accent that beautifully balances out the heft of the pieces.
Who’s behind the brand? Cecila Elguero has an eclectic background, including studies in film and multimedia arts as well as an MFA in Design and Technology from Parsons and years of work as a graphic designer and web designer. In addition she’s produced a great body of work as an artist in many different media – installations, video, industrial design, and has even made a series of quirky little ceramic teapot characters. Multi-faceted indeed.
What do they do? As you can tell she pretty much does it all. But let’s focus on her jewelry line for a moment. Nido de Sueños was originally born out of a kickstarter campaign to raise money to set up her own ceramic studio. It worked, and now she successfully runs her own line, doing everything from design to crafting in her own workshop in Brooklyn. She continually pushes the boundaries by using unexpected materials in her highly graphic hand-crafted jewelry, and that’s why we love her.
What materials do they use? Most of her jewelry is ceramic, and either stark white or star black, but she also incorporates precious metals like 24 carat gold as well as paper, wood and copper.
Where are they based? Brooklyn, New York.
Editors’ favorites from the line? The big statement Texture Ring is pretty stellar, with the crazy futuristic texture delicately supported by a paper thin layer of gold, but we also love the clean minimalist Tilt Milk Ring, something about that stark white and the smooth glaze just gets us going.
Where can I get the goods? She started out on Etsy, but now has her own site.
