At a glance: Patch Design Studio makes hand-printed textiles for the home with rustic and whimsical designs.
Who’s behind the brand? South Carolina native Heather Mithoefer Adcock got her master’s degree in industrial design at the Savannah College of Arts & Design but along the way fell in love with textiles and fibers. She experimented with inks and printing techniques until she found that the slow process of block printing was what she felt most connected to. She founded Patch in 2010 and it has since grown steadily, and she now has hired extra hands to help her in the workshop, though the process is exactly the same as when she started.
What do they do? Patch Design Studio specializes in block printing, creating kitchen towels, napkins, and a handful of pillows and adorable onesies that are all hand-printed with hand-carved blocks. Heather’s designs feel rustic and authentic, and all of the quirks of the block printing process shine through her work in a very sweet way.
What materials do they use? Environmental responsibility is one of their main guiding principles and they use only sustainable fabrics and eco-friendly inks. The kitchen towels, napkins and pillows are a blend of organic cotton and hemp, and the onesies are made of super soft organic cotton. Everything is hand block printed with water-based inks.
Where are they based? Patch Design Studio is currently based in Asheville, North Carolina.
Editors’ favorites from the line? We have a soft spot for kitchen towels - can you ever have enough of them? As for the designs, we love the goats, but that shouldn’t be much of a surprise coming from the Goat & Gramp team! We also love the carrot and radish prints, and the two-toned feather prints are wonderful too.
Where can I get the goods? As always, we recommend buying straight from the creators themselves at their online store, but Patch Design Studio pieces are carried by a huge number of stockists throughout the US as well as in Canada and Japan, all of which you can see here. Their goods can also be found at various other online retailers including Apartment 48, and Lila Mae.
