At a glance: Rachel Craven is a line of elegantly understated hand-printed table linens with the occasional unexpected pop of bright colors. You can also find a few aprons and scarves there as well.
Who’s behind the brand? Rachel Craven trained in fine arts as a painter and then worked as a fashion stylist before transitioning back to painting and design and starting her textile line. She’s also one of the founders of The Echo Park Craft Fair (the other one being Beatrice Valenzuela, who makes amazing little moccasin-type shoes)
What do they do? Rachel hand-prints graphic motifs onto natural textured linens, creating a gorgeous juxtaposition between urban and rustic, modern and old-school, neutral and vibrant. She uses linoleum stamps to do the block printing, putting southwest-inspired designs onto natural linens in bold color. In addition to her signature table linens, she also does the occasional scarf and apron. They will also do custom-design linen sets for weddings if you’re interested.
Bonus feel-good aspect? Rachel collaborated with the folks at Girl Rising to produce an exclusive run of printed linen scarves and a portion of those proceeds go to the charity, helping fund girls’ education worldwide.
What materials do they use? The fabric is an Italian linen sourced in Los Angeles and the dyes are all non-toxic.
Where are they based? Rachel works out of her studio/home in Echo Park in Los Angeles
Editors’ favorites from the line? Her stock changes fairly regularly but at the time of this writing our favorites are the Golden Triangle Design table cloth and napkins and the Linen Apron. We also love the brighter neon prints and the deep indigo tablecloths she’s done in the past, maybe she’ll bring them back?
Where can I get the goods? You can get the goods on her website, but she’s also carried at a number stockists including Heath Ceramics, which really helped launch her line. The other stores that carry her goods are scattered throughout Los Angeles and Brooklyn, and you can find the details here if you’re in the area.
