At a glance: Tradlands is a company that makes meanswear-inspired button-down shirts for women.
Who’s behind the brand? Wife and husband team Sadie and Jeremy Roberts combined her design skills with his business sense to create Tradlands, a womenswear company inspired by menswear. Sadie was inspired by what she saw as a huge hole in the marketplace – as a shopper she found herself constantly attracted to clothing from the men’s sections in stores, but was always disappointed when they didn’t fit. So she decided to take matters into her own hands.
What do they do? Tradlands makes the shirts women always want to steal from men, but with an eye to tailoring for a perfect fit on a woman's body. All their shirts are hand-sewn in small batches in order to assure the highest quality, and to allow the designers to explore a constantly changing array of textiles. In addition to their button-down shirts, they’ve also started doing cozy henleys, a nod to those long underwear shirts that get you through the winter, with more thought to fabric and tailoring.
What materials do they use? All of their fabrics are sourced in the USA, and range from mid-weight chambray to lightweight linen to super sturdy raw denim. Some of their shirts have a small amount of spandex in them as well for a bit of stretch and the most perfect fit possible. The new line of henleys are made of a blend of hemp and organic cotton.
Where are they based? All their products are hand-sewn in their Nob Hill studio in San Francisco, California.
Editors’ favorites from the line? Since they make their shirts in such small batches, chances are when you head over to look all the fabrics will be different from at the time of this edit, but right now there’s a deep rich ruby red flannel Fort Point shirt that we’re seriously drooling over. And from past collections, we love the traditional oxford shirts and the idea of a raw denim button-down has as all a-flutter. Bring back the raw denim Sadie and Jeremy!
Where can I get the goods? Straight from their online store, with free shipping in the US! They also ship internationally for a charge. They also are carried at various brick and mortar stores throughout the US, but you have to contact Tradlands for more specific information.
